Sean Smith- Tadcaster and York
Having started Karate at the age of 10, I returned to training in 1996 under Sensei Mark Holding, and began instructing in 1997 as a 4th Kyu. I earned my 1st Dan in 1999 under a panel headed by Sensei Doug James (8th Dan) along with Sensei Ian Abernethy (6th Dan) and Sensei Ray Hind (6th Dan) and gained my full coaching qualification a week later. I achieved my 2nd Dan in December 2017 alongside Phil.
I have represented the British Karate-Do Chojinkai at both National and International level gaining a number of Kata and Kumite titles along the way. As part of this I regularly trained with Sensei Holding and Sensei Abernethy to develop both aspects of my Karate.
Having moved to Leeds to develop my career in the Leisure Industry I was able to retrain and qualify as a secondary PE teacher. I am currently employed within a secondary school in York.
Holding a BSc Sports Science, a Level 4 Strength and Conditioning Coach and a Specialist in Youth S&C. I have a passion for supplementary training to improve performance.
I am married to Lisa and have two children Lucas, age 8 (currently training, 6th Kyu) and Alyssa, aged 4 (currently training, 9th Kyu).
I now run Mitsuru Yorkshire which is currently based in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire and I am also the Managing Director of MY Fitness and Martial Arts.
Phil Moran- Tadcaster
I started Karate at age 15 with the Appleby club in 1999 and began instructing in 2001. I gained my 1st Dan in 2004 under a panel headed by Sensei Doug James (8th Dan). I represented the British Karate-Do Chojinkai at National level and came third in the 2003 EKGB Cadets National Championships . I recently achieved my 2nd Dan, grading alongside Sean.
After moving to Leeds in 2004 to pursue career opportunities I now own two vehicle wrapping businesses in the Wetherby area.
I have a daughter Kim, age 7 who is currently training and is a 8th Kyu.
